Post: Residential Support Worker
Location: Manchester, Rusholme.
Accountable to: SRSW, Team Leaders, Managers
Objectives of the post.
To contribute to the maintenance and provision of a high quality and accountable residential service for young people who lives in the home.
To work within the framework of good practice as set out in the Wishing Well Homes Staff handbook and training materials.
Duties
The following duties are those which the post holder can reasonably expect to be required to fulfil.
To be involved in the direct delivery of services to the client group in accordance with the aims of Wishing Well Homes.
To assist the Management team in achieving the aims set out within the policy of the organisation and in accordance with statutory, organisation requirements.
To assist the Management team in providing the highest possible standards of care guidance, support and protection for client group and co-operate fully with colleagues in achieving these objectives whilst remembering the needs of the child are paramount.
To be included on a work rota that provides staff cover at Wishing Well Homes on a shift basis as detailed by the staff rota or as directed by Care Manager or delegated person.
To carry out any of the practical tasks which may arise in the course of good child care practice, for example - the preparation of meals, laundry, sewing appropriate cleaning and gardening tasks.
Supervision of young people at all times, including lunch and other meals, in accordance to Wishing Well Homes policy.
Purchase of food, household requirements, clothing and leisure pursuits when requested.
To provide stimulating activities and new experiences to enable poorly motivated young people to achieve.
To undertake occasional sleep in duties on a rota basis as specified in Wishing Well Homes guidelines.
To report any serious faults to Senior staff or Team Leader and to repair any minor maintenance to the unit as they may judge to be within their competence.
Petty cash management as it arises from the tasks outlined above.
Record keeping and administration as required.
Familiarisation with written fire drill procedures, location and use of fire extinguishers and alarms and other necessary safety precautions and to implement such procedures as and when appropriate. To be constantly vigilant on health and safety matters and to share concerns of same immediately with line management.
Security of the House both day and night. All necessary precautions must be taken to effect efficient security and prevent heat/light loss.
Ensuring that Wishing Well Homes and its environs are kept clean and tidy.
To maintain effective communication and promote professional liaison within Gleniffer House and other relevant agencies, parents or carers.
Attendance and contribution to a regular supervision session by arrangement with Home’s Manager, Deputy Care Manager, or senior Staff Members.
Taking a full and active part in six monthly appraisals as arranged by the Care Manager and your supervisor and to carry out such actions as are specified in this document.
Attending training as arranged, as part of your individual development plan.
Responsibility to understand and promote Wishing Well Homes policies in relation to care and control, child protection, open access to records and equal opportunities.
Dressing appropriately at all times when on duty.
Any other duties delegated by the Care Manager and senior staff. This is likely to include specific responsibility for several delegated tasks.
